The Periodic Table of Brilliant Women and Girls

The Periodic Table of Brilliant Women & Girls was conceived by husband and wife team, Rob Clucas-Tomlinson and Sarah Dixon, when they realised their 7 year old daughter was growing up with little awareness of the amazing achievements of women around the world.

The poster features 101 amazing female role models and their stories. Following our successful Kickstarter campaign in December 2020 we have now made the posters and booklets available here.

AMAZING STORIES, INCREDIBLE WOMEN & GIRLS

In the Periodic Table, we carefully selected 101 inspiring figures from a wider range of fields of endeavour. Every entry has an incredible story to tell! We have scientists and activists, reformists and artists, sportswomen and adventurers - many of whom are linked, not only by their inspiring lives or inspirational acts, but by the fact that they have been reduced to mere footnotes in a male-dominated history of the world.

Yes, Florence Nightingale is here, as is Marie Curie and the Williams sisters, and we are proud that they are too. But how much credit does Rosalind Franklin ever get for her major part in discovering DNA? Or Katherine Johnson for calculating USA’s first manned ascent into space? Or even Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh for standing up to her own government and saving her country from a potentially catastrophic Ebola outbreak? Junko Tabei climbed Mt. Everest. Claudia Jones created London's famed Notting Hill Carnival as part of a lifetime of change-making. Phylliss Pearsall designed the iconic London A-Z map. Wangari Maathai oversaw the planting of 45 million trees in her native Kenya. We've now named 11 women, and the other 90 are equally as amazing!

We'd like to see this poster hanging in every school and on every child’s bedroom wall. When Venus Williams won her battle against the Wimbledon organisers for women to receive the same prize money as their male counterparts, she said, "somewhere in the world a little girl is dreaming of holding a giant trophy in her hands and being viewed as an equal to boys who have similar dreams."

That's what this poster is all about.

THE POSTER

The poster is A2 size, which is 42cm x 59.4cm. It is printed on sustainably sourced quality 170gsm paper with a silk finish to make the colours bright. It will be suitable for framing or sticking direct to the wall with your chosen adhesive. It will be sent in a sturdy cardboard tube.

There is also a Deluxe Print which is A1 - perfect for a colourful and engaging display in workplaces or school halls.

THE BOOKLET

This is a 28pp full colour A4 magazine, suitable for rolling up into your poster tube so we can ship them together. Featuring notes on each of the women and girls on the poster, this is your insight into the characters and achievements behind the letters.

The stories of 101 amazing women and girls

DID YOU KNOW that the iconic London A-Z guides were created by entrepreneurial map designer Phyllis Pearsall? Or that we can thank peace activist and novelist Bertha von Suttner for the existence of the Nobel Peace Prize? Do you know about Claudia Jones, the Trinidadian woman who created London's world-famous Notting Hill Carnival, to showcase Caribbean talent? Or the story of Saalumarada Thimmakka who grew from an impoverished early life to become an environmental figurehead for her treeplanting efforts in her native India - and has been awarded an honorary doctorate at 108 years of age?

101 BRILLIANT WOMEN & GIRLS

This was not an easy choice, and we particularly wanted to focus on changemakers for our daughter's role models. There are hundreds more we could have added but we hope this list is rich enough to inspire, stimulate and cause you to rethink female contribution to society over the ages. Every one of these people have done extraordinary things, even when conditions have been very powerfully set against their chances of achievement.
